Training

Training focuses on the kata (forms/pattern) taken from the various schools within the Bujinkan. Kata are practiced with a partner, slowly at first and gradually built upon, the goal being to make the movements fluid and instinctual. A lot of the kata are applicable to self defense.

Another important aspect of our practice is ukemi (literally 'receiving' or more commonly, break falling) this is the practice of learning to fall with correct form, keeping the body relaxed, allowing students to practice throwing safely.

As well as practicing the classical forms of taijutsu (unarmed techniques) We also practice kata involving the use of weapons:

  • Kenjutsu - Techniques using the katana

  • Bo,Jo & Hanbo jutsu -  Techniques using various lengths of staff

  • Sojutsu - Techniques using the spear

  • Naginatajutsu - Techniques using the glaive/halberd
